Company History

From its establishment in the US in 1979, DFC Global Corp has grown into a leading provider of simple financial products to consumers in the US, Canada and Europe.

Following expansion into Canada in 1996, we entered the UK market in 1999 with the acquisition of 11 branches of The Money Shop from Nottingham-based founder Henry Hallam. Expansion in Canada continued in 2006 with the acquisition of a further 82 stores, bringing the group total to 477.

In 2008, we entered the Republic of Ireland and in 2009 acquired leading online lender, Express Finance, based in Bromley, UK.  Later that same year, we added two of Scotland’s oldest pawnbroking businesses, Duncanson and Edwards and Robert Biggar; and in 2010 acquired Suttons and Robertsons, London’s oldest jewellery and pawnbroking business.

In 2011, UK online lender Month End Money was added to the group.  With it came over 260 staff based in Bicester, Oxfordshire, and leading online brand Payday UK.

Alongside these acquisitions, we have undertaken a concerted roll out of Money Shop stores across the UK.  From 1999, we have grown the business to become one of the best known brands on the British high street.  We have over 250 stores serving customers up and down the country.
